The classes below are Mr. McGough's Summer Enrichment classes offered through the Cromwell Middle School Summer Enrichment program. Look at the listings below and see what interests you. Fill out the application form and have your parents write out a check to CMS for each class you would like to take. Each class has a registration fee of $75. Classes fill quickly so turn them in soon! |

American Idol - Cromwell (July 6-10 8:30am-11:30am) | Battle Bots (July 6-10 12:00am-3:00am) |
Do you love to sing? Do you have what it takes to be the next…American Idol? During this week-long class you will get the opportunity to sing to some of your favorite songs and record your own CD. We will use current digital technology to prepare, sing, and produce your own music CD. Each student will bring home a CD of their songs. The week will culminate with a karaoke contest. The class will be limited to the first 8 students to sign up. Equipment space is limited and therefore requires a small group. There will be a fee of $10 per student to cover the cost of needed supplies. The fee can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. |
The box is locked…the lights are on…it’s bot fighting time! Students will begin by discussing the basics of robotic vehicles. The students will work in teams to build a bot kit for the competition round. Bots will compete in battle style rounds as well a maneuverability courses. Students will then design large bots using a computer simulator. They will use these computerized bots to battle each other safely over the network. The class will be limited to the first 8 students to sign up. There will be a fee of $10 per student to cover the cost of needed supplies. The fee can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. |

Do you like to take pictures? If you always have a camera with you and like taking pictures, than this is the class for you. In this class we will cover the basics of how to take great photos as well as how to enhance them using digital editing software on the computer. We will cover a variety of types of shots, including some trick photography. We will shoot and process photos on the computer all week long and prepare our best for a photo gallery that we will present on the final class. Each student will walk away with all of their photos saved on a disk and one of their best mounted and framed This photo shoot will be limited to the first 8 photographers to sign up. Each photographer must have a digital camera that they can use for the week. The camera does not need to be really fancy, but should have a removable card so that we can transfer the images from the camera to the computer for editing. There will be a fee of $10 per student to cover the cost of needed supplies. The fee should be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. |
Like to play video games...but don’t have anyone to compete against? This is your chance to show off your gaming skills in tournament-style play. Come enjoy a week of competition using a variety of the hottest games. The class will be limited to the first 10 students to sign up. There will be a fee of $10 per student to cover the cost of equipment and game rentals. The fee can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. This class is rated “E” for everyone, so no games with inappropriate content will be used.

Drivers Ed.- Nascar Style (July 20-24 8:30am-11:30am) | Puzzle Master (July 20-24 12:00pm-3:00pm) |
In this week long course the students will study basic racing skills and strategies. We will also focus on the rules of the road. The drivers will apply racing strategies, first in a simulator, and then on the track. The week’s activities will culminate with a race on REAL go-karts. The class will be limited to the first 7 students to sign up. Students must be at least 56” tall in order to race the go-karts. This limited space is due to kart availability and track size. Sign up fast to make it to the winner’s circle! There will be a fee of $25 per student to cover the cost of needed supplies and racing fees. The fee can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. |
Did you ever want to SOLVE the RUBIK’S CUBE? In this course you will learn the strategies needed to solve the cube no matter who messes it up. Students will also work on and solve a variety of other puzzles and problems. Students will use problem solving strategies that they will be able to apply to other situations. By the end of class each student will have a strategy to solve the Rubik’s Cube, along with other problems that they may face. The class will be limited to the first 8 students to sign up. Students will need to have a Rubik’s Cube 3x3 of their own for the class. All other puzzles and problems will be provided.Commercial Coming Soon! |
Golf School (July 27-31 8:30am-11:30am) | Web Design (July 27-31 12:00pm-3:00pm) |
For this weeklong course we will begin with the fundamentals: grip, stance, and swing. The students will spend the week practicing driving, chipping, and putting. We will culminate the week’s activities with a trip to the golf course for a nine hole round of golf. The class will be limited to the first six students to sign up. The golf course requires groups of four on the course. This will allow for two groups, each with an adult. There will be a fee of $15 per student to cover the cost of greens fees and other supplies. The fee can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. Each student is required to have a set of “REAL” golf clubs that they can use for the week. |
Did you ever want to create your own web site? This course will show you a variety of ways to build a web site from scratch. Students will learn to use a variety of free resources as well as retail products. Students will build a web site on a topic of their choice. By the end of class each student will have a site that they can take home and send up to a host provider. The class will be limited to the first 8 designers to sign up. Computer space is limited and therefore requires a small group. A flash drive is required if student would like to bring site content home. |
